To boost its region’s economic activity, Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula (RDAEP) developed the Community Solar Project (the Project) to inject dollars from electricity savings into the local economy while also supercharging the region’s solar and home battery sector.

Community surveys showed that consumers wanted choice of solar providers and services, and that the biggest incentive for getting a home battery was not saving money, but protecting against blackouts. The three barriers to rooftop solar and/or a home battery were identified as the upfront capital cost, confusion and/or apathy about products, and leasing or renting of premises.

Under the Project, RDAEP is working with 11 councils to deliver quality solar choices, with competitive finance options available. The Project also provides solutions for businesses who lease their premises, and renting residents.

The Project is delivering cost savings to the residents, business and organisations in the region.
