Whyalla City Council held a dedication ceremony in February to open the Mayor Jim Pollock Wetlands.

Speakers included Deputy Mayor Jenny Barnes, Member for Giles Eddie Hughes, and close friend Geoff Brock MP who gave a short but heartfelt speech.  Minister Brock then invited Jim’s wife, Jenny to help him unveil the plaque which is set on a 14 tonne Iron Ore rock.

Members of the Pollock family gave thanks to the Council for the honour of having the wetlands named after their father.

Whyalla City councillors, Eyre Peninsula Local Government Association CEO Tony Irvine, RDAWEP Board members Colin Carter, Clare McLaughlin, Jack Velthuizen and Chair Bryan Trigg also attended the ceremony along with members of the public.

Regional Development Australia Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula is very pleased with the tribute the City of Whyalla has bestowed to its former Mayor and RDAWEP’s long time Chair for the tireless years of public service Mayor Jim gave to our region.
