SA water has announced that Acciona has been awarded the contract for the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase of the Eyre Peninsula desalination project. Acciona will be undertaking further investigations at the proposed desalination plant location of Billy Lights Point over the coming months to support SA Water in developing the detailed design of land and marine infrastructure as part of the project.
A range of marine and environmental assessments are continuing to help determine the best location and design for the desalination plant and other connecting infrastructure. These include:
Marine assessments
- current and tide surveying
- hydrodynamic mid-field and near-field modelling
- bathymetry and marine geophysics surveying
- site specific habitat mapping
- fish surveying
- ecotoxicity testing
- sediment assessment testing.
Terrestrial (land) assessments
- seasonal orchid survey
- noise monitoring
- geotechnical investigations
- traffic and access assessments
- visual amenity assessments
- coastal and shoreline bird surveys
- cultural heritage assessment and survey.

SA Water’s Project Information Centre at 6/50 Liverpool Street, Port Lincoln will be closed over the Christmas and New Year period, closing from 2pm on Thursday 14 December 2023 and re-opening at 12pm on Tuesday 16 January 2024.
