Regional South Australians aged 15 to 24 are encouraged to get involved in this year’s Youth Parliament program.
Now in its 22nd year, Youth Parliament has educated over 1,000 young people about parliamentary process. The Bills passed by the Youth Parliament are formally presented to the Minister for Youth for the Government’s considerations, giving participating young people the opportunity to voice their opinions on many different issues.
Scholarships are available to all regional participants to cover travel costs to and from Adelaide, both for training in May and for the residential week in July.
The number of regional participants in the program has more than doubled since this scholarship was introduced. In 2016, 21 of the 71 participants, including the 2016 Youth Governor, Elysse Dimitriadis, were from regional South Australia with representatives from 19 regional areas including Port Lincoln, Tumby Bay and Whyalla.
To apply or find out more about the Youth Parliament program and regional scholarships, visit the YMCA SA website or contact Alana James at YMCA SA on 0447 047 422.
Applications close on Sunday, 12 March 2017.
Youth Parliament is coordinated by the YMCA of South Australia, and supported by the State Government through the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion.
