Regional Advisory Network

The Regional Advisory Network (RAN) is a new program to help rural, regional and remote customers get connected wherever they are – at home, work, on the road. Even in complex locations or difficult environments. The program offers individual solutions provided by local Telstra experts located around the country so no matter where you live, you’ll have access to them.  Telstra recognise that mobile coverage doesn’t extend to all geographic parts of the land and the signal strength can vary depending on location and other factors such as building construction materials, density of trees, terrain, etc. For more information and customer enquiry webform visit https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/telstra-regional-australia/regional-advisory-network

Mobile Blackspot Program

After Round 5 of the Australian Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program is completed, Telstra will have invested up to $290 million and built more than 880 new sites to improve coverage for regional areas around the country.

Round 5A is now closed and it is expected that the Australian Government will announce the program outcomes soon.  It is anticipated a Round 6 of the program will also open soon, it’s a good time to identify any potential opportunities to improve coverage in the region.

Regional Connectivity Program

The Regional Connectivity Program (RCP) is a federal competitive grant program to expand the economic, social and public safety benefits of improved digital connectivity to regional, rural and remote Australian communities.  Telstra was successful with funding for 3 projects in South Australia totalling approximately $7m, and were also the only major mobile provider to win projects and commit funding to improve services.  Another round of RCP is expected to be announced in the near future.

Alternative Voice Service Trial (AVST)

The Australian Government has initiated a $2 million Alternative Voice Services trials program (or AVST) which aims to identify new ways to deliver voice services, assess their effectiveness, and raise awareness of alternative solutions to provide better services and functionality.  Telstra will be seeking trial participants for a Low Band AVT trial in Coffin Bay to ‘test and learn’ plain old voice telephone services and any potential problems connecting services over the fixed wireless NBN network.
