The Australian Government has announced Mobile Black Spot Program funds for 17 new communications base stations in South Australia and four are in the Eyre and Western region at Fowlers Bay, Koonibba, Mudamuckla and Nundroo Roadhouse.
The new and improved mobile phone coverage will ensure more South Australians can contact family and friends, access education services and keep their businesses running.
RDAWEP continues to work hard with the State and Federal Government to map, prioritise and implement black spot projects across the region.
The CEO of the Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation Corey McLennan said, “that as well as providing important connectivity for the community members it will have a role in the further development of tourism services, assisting with the marketing of products and making visitors feel safe and not isolated. The service will also play a very important role with the space program that Koonibba is embarking on with Southern Launch and contribute to education, and the functioning of the employment activity”.
