Yumbah Aquaculture

Job title: Propagation Technician

Yumbah Port Lincoln is an abalone farm located at Point Boston, about 20 minutes from Port Lincoln.

In this job you will be involved in the spawning and rearing of the farm’s juvenile greenlip abalone. You will be required to work in a small team of 3-4 people, and will cover a range of tasks, including: hatchery processes of spawning greenlip abalone, maintaining algal cultures, stock movement within the nursery and moving stock into growout areas, cleaning and feeding nursery tanks, and light maintenance jobs (plumbing and tank repairs). It is a full-time job all year round, but the nature of the work is seasonal, meaning that you’ll do one or two of these things for a few months before moving onto a different job, with an “off season” for maintenance through winter each year.

The hours will be full-time, 7am to 3:30 Monday to Thursday, and 7am to 1pm on Fridays. There will be some weekend work required from January to April.

Successful applicants will demonstrate good teamwork and communication skills, be able to work independently and be self-motivated, and most importantly, show a passion for aquaculture, and take pride in their work.

This is an incredibly rewarding job, with your actions having a direct affect on the farm’s production.
