Organisation overview

Yalata Anangu Aboriginal Corporation (YAAC) represents the interests of around 350 Aboriginal people living in Yalata Community, which is located 200 kilometres west of Ceduna and 2 kilometres off the main highway. The organisation aims to support the development of Aboriginal people, with the core of their work in assisting the remote communities to be strong and sustainable with reliable essential services

Yalata Community Store works alongside our not-for-profit Indigenous Organisation, to provide groceries and other essential services to our remote Aboriginal Community.

Yalata Anangu Aboriginal Corporation’s (YAAC) vision is to provide a ‘happy, healthy and safe community’ for our residents. We do this by delivering a range of programs to strengthen Yalata including community development, land management, arts and culture, education and tourism. We also provide key services in health, youth, women’s rights, community safety and municipal management.

About the role

We are looking for a management couple and singles to join our team in Yalata. This hands-on role will be responsible for the operations of the store including purchasing and inventory management, front-of-house, providing exceptional customer service, merchandising, and leading a diverse team.

*The Store Manager is required to work full-time hours.

ADDITIONAL 

Tasks includes:

  • Oversight of all operations regarding staffing, purchasing and inventory management
  • Retail area is clean and tidy, maintaining good retail presentation
  • Merchandising the store with quality saleable items, ensuring goods are rotated, and products are priced in accordance with policy
  • High motivation and willingness to use your initiative to resolve problems
  • The encouragement and involvement of Indigenous personnel in the store
  • Preparation and cooking of food, for breakfast and lunch service Monday to Friday

About you

You’re a dynamic, passionate, organised, and people-orientated individual who likes to think outside the box. You have store management experience in a remote community and are looking for the next step in your career. If you are passionate about people and want to contribute to running of our community store, this role is for you.

ADDITIONAL 

As a Store Manager, we are after a mixed skill set, whereby you bring a combination of the following:

  • A minimum of 3 + years of retail experience in a grocery environment is preferable
  • Understanding of rostering and staff allocation
  • Experience in inventory and stock control
  • Administration and financial management skills
  • Sound customer service and relationship building skills
  • A passion for training and developing people
  • Strong computer literacy, with the ability to learn new software
  • Kitchen and cooking experience is a must

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience managing a remote store
  • Demonstrated ability managing stock, staff coordination and store operations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with a diverse range of age groups and cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team operating in a complex environment.
  • Stock control expertise and proven financial/administrative skills
  • Kitchen and cooking skills with high level food management and control
  • High level of computer skills including knowledge of ‘Grocery Manager’ software, and POS

Certificates/Licences 

  • Tertiary education or Retail Certificate
  • Unrestricted Driver’s Licence
  • Forklift licence or the ability to obtain one

Other Requirements

As the Yalata Store provides services to ‘at risk and vulnerable people’, candidates will also be required to complete a ‘National Police Check’ and a ‘Department of Human Services Clearance’, or the ability to obtain upon job offer being presented.
