The City of Whyalla has an exciting opportunity for a casual Steelworks Tour Guide/Driver to provide a professional and unique customer experience to our visitors

About the role:

Whyalla Council’s Visitor Information Centre is the information base for all things tourism for Whyalla and surrounding districts. An integral part of the service we provide is a well informed bus tour of the Whyalla Steelworks. The GFG Steelworks has a huge footprint on the community of Whyalla and it is a showcase tour to enable locals and visitors alike to understand the underpinning works of the steelmaking process.

Council has a vacancy for a casual Steelworks Tour Guide/Driver. Steelworks tours are provided during the week, but can also include special tour times during the week and weekends on occasion. Flexibility to provide additional tours, including some weekend work is expected.

Some of the duties and responsibilities of the Steelworks Tour Guide/Driver include:

  • Provide a high level of professionalism in delivering a bus tour of the Steelworks with associated commentary
  • Ability to provide a great customer experience and promote Whyalla and its other attractions
  • Liaison with Steelworks personnel to ensure compliance with site requirements
  • Effectively and accurately provide answers to customer enquiries

About you:

We are seeking an energetic and experienced bus driver/tour guide who has:

  • Bus driver accreditation (LP, Large Passenger Accreditation)
  • Certified security pass to enter the Steelworks or ability to obtain
  • Physical ability to conduct tours, undertake manual activities and ability to access and egress the tour bus
  • Extensive knowledge of Whyalla and surrounding region
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Some understanding of the Whyalla steelworks and its operation is highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience delivering customer focused service

If you have demonstrated experience working in a customer focused vocation, a LP bus accreditation and some background knowledge of the steelworks, then we would love to hear from you!

This is a casual position. The salary applicable for this role is in accordance with the Local Government Employees Award and Council’s current Enterprise Agreement, paid at Grade 4. This currently equates to $39.33 per hour (inclusive of casual loading).
