About the role

Reporting to the Maintenance & Engineering Manager and based on-site in Whyalla, this role leads, supervises and is responsible for effectively managing the daily workflow and resources in the Steelmaking Plant Electrical Team.

As well as the ongoing management of major repairs, reliability improvements, and upgrades for the electrical system across Steelmaking you will also:

  • Lead the Steelmaking Electrical team to effectively manage the short term and mid-term workflow and priorities in alignment with Work Management Process
  • Mentor and coach the Steelmaking Electrical team to continuously develop internal capability to manage Plant Electrical System issues and implement upgrades and improvements
  • Identify key Plant Electrical reliability issues affecting the performance of the plan and then develop and implement plans to address them
  • Lead the identification and implementation of Plant Electrical upgrades following appropriate change management process and capital approval process (if required)
  • Lead the team to ensure complex Plant Electrical problems affecting plant performance are addressed in a timely and effective manner
  • Support the Plant Electrical capital project team on managing major capital project from inception to delivery
  • Effectively lead and ensure that Company requirements for change management, technical uniformity, technical assurance, and standardization are properly incorporated into the engineering tasks undertaken.

About your experience

A natural leader who is dedicated to mentoring and building capacity within the team to make a difference, you will preferably come from an electrical system background.

With a collaborative nature and a strong analytical, planning, and organisational aptitude, you will also bring to this role:

  • Relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering or significant Electrical System trade experience
  • Extensive demonstrated experience leading major repairs and upgrades in electrical systems in the heavy manufacturing industry
  • High level of interpersonal, coaching and influencing skills
  • Experience in leading the change management, Engineering, and reliability practices
  • Extensive experience with Siemens, ABB, and AB control systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, ideally SAP and excellent report building/presentation skills.
