About the role

Situated on-site in Whyalla and reporting to the Area Project Lead/Manager, you will provide support in the continued safe delivery of multiple projects. With a strong focus on writing technical scopes of work, design reviews with strong focus on safety in design, tendering and Bid review, this role would suit a seasoned Project Engineer, Design Engineer or an experienced Maintenance Engineer wanting to move into the project space, to take the next step.

Based within the Capital Delivery Team you will be responsible for:

  • Development of engineering work scopes, design requirements for all allocated construction work packages, ensuring these are issued on time and cover the project requirements and quality expectations
  • Support the tendering and award of work packages to successful tenderers
  • Manage engineering work scopes executed by the external engineering consultants and contractors, and ensure they are delivered to quality, cost, and time budgets
  • Review of design detail of external engineering consultants and contractors, and co-ordinate review of designs with the project stakeholders to ensure contract scope is delivered.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Technical Risk Analysis and Safety in Design process for allocated projects
  • Provide technical support during construction to promptly address design or construction issues
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications and verify against approved design during construction
  • Develop and maintain project risk registers for each project and establish and participate in risk workshops as required for each project

About your experience

Our ideal candidate will have strong stakeholder engagement and reporting skills alongside demonstrated safety in design, HAZOP and technical risk analysis experience.

With the ability to work at multiple levels across various disciplines you will also have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in your chosen Engineering discipline
  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management desirable but not essential
  • Demonstrated working experience and knowledge of a steel and/or manufacturing, mining industry environment
  • Proven experience at major project level in a similar role
  • Experienced in use of Australian Standards for engineering design and review
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications. Demonstrated ability to author original content for presentation, e.g. PowerPoint, Excel, Word. Proficient in SAP, design software, MS Project or equivalent
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An understanding of procurement practices is desirable
