About the role

Our Iron Ore business is on an exciting trajectory to expand our mining and processing operations with significant investment over the next three years. Due to our recently approved Mine expansion, we are seeking Exploration Geologists (Grad, Junior, Mid and to Senior levels) who display initiative and a passion for mineral discovery, to join our Whyalla operations team.

Working with the Superintendent Exploration Geology, your responsibilities will include:

  • Safe, cost effective and timely implementation of exploration programs
  • Target generation and design and management of drilling programs
  • Interpretation and validation of geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to update geological models in Leapfrog Geo.
  • Geological mapping and sampling and interpretation of geophysical and geochemical data

About your experience

You will be degree qualified and have a desire to contribute to mineral discovery within an exploration and mining environment. Your strong communication skills, ability to liaise with key stakeholders and safety focus will form a strong foundation for your success.

To be successful in this role, as a base you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology
  • Strong analytical, research, creative thinking, and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and yet work autonomously when required
  • The desire to contribute to your team through expression of ideas, collaboration, and continual professional development to remain at the forefront of your industry.

About our team

SIMEC Mining, a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Iron Ore mining operations in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges, south west of Whyalla, consist of three primary mine sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges. Our Tahmoor Colliery in New South Wales, is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant, producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Administration functions and ore pelletising and port facilities are located within the city limits of Whyalla, with corporate functions based in Adelaide and Sydney.

The Iron Ore business is on an exciting trajectory to expand our mining and processing operations with significant investment over the next three years. Our operations in Tahmoor NSW produce metallurgical coal for the steel making process where the business is currently investing to expand and extend the life of the operations.
