About the role

As the first point of escalation for complex breakdown repair assessments, CI projects business case development and a large involvement in the development and delivery of the budget, particularly around major repairs, Due diligence, and asset integrity on site, you will also be required to:

  • Lead, mentor, and coach the engineering team at steelmaking to effectively manage the engineering workflow, major repairs and delivering the complex engineering tasks
  • Manage the long-term major repair plan (5 year) and 90-day major repair plan to deliver the major repair projects effectively and timely within the allocated budget
  • Improve asset management practices at steel products plant and equipment reliability by driving the reliability team to deliver on targeted results for steel products
  • Develop business cases for the CI projects, being POR for the steel products site, getting the CI projects delivered with the support of project managers
  • Effectively lead and ensure that Company requirements for change management, technical uniformity, technical assurance, and standardization are properly incorporated into the engineering tasks undertaken
  • Leading, managing and developing effective due diligence strategies ensuring statutory compliance is met timely and in an effective way
  • Leading, managing and developing effective asset integrity strategies for cranes and ensuring timely delivery of the actions raised by partial third-party inspection team
  • Delivery of the weekly RAR’s, lead team reporting for crane PTPI, due diligence
  • Ensuring the standard work management practices are followed by each team members and effectively lead to improve and bring a positive change
  • Provide expert advice and assistance on all mechanical engineering topics such as hydraulics, lubrication, welding specifications/certifications and paint specifications utilizing the available resources.

About your experience

Our ideal candidate should be a natural leader, dedicated to mentoring and building capacity within the team to make a difference and will preferably come from a Mechanical Engineering background with a strong desire to couple their leadership responsibilities alongside technical and physical engineering tasks.

With a collaborative nature and a strong analytical, planning, and organisational aptitude, you will also bring to this role:

  • Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Extensive demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering/project team delivering complex engineering tasks in heavy industry (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • High level of interpersonal, coaching and influencing skills
  • Experience in leading the change management, Engineering, and reliability practices
  • Experience in coordinating the delivery of statutory equipment asset management strategies, due diligence, and structural integrity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, ideally SAP and excellent report building/presentation skills
  • Front Line Leadership training/certification is desirable
