About the role

The Client is seeking to appoint a Mining Engineer to join their team. They own and operate a 10m tonne per annum iron ore mine in the mid north of South Australia.

As the Mining Engineer you will be leading the short-term planning and production activity with the mining contractor. You will provide technical and practical advice to mine operations and ensure all safety and environmental standards are met. You will work closely with Contractors, Senior Mining Engineers, Geologists, Survey and Grade Control to ensure development of mine schedules and plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with all contractors to ensure schedules and designs comply with operational capability and strategic objective, and advise where mining deviates from schedule
  • Coordinate small to medium sized projects
  • Develop, maintain and document mine planning and scheduling systems in collaboration with the mining contractor
  • Review and assist in minor operational design changes
  • Collate and analyse mining data for continuous improvement across different mining functions
  • Work with medium term planning engineer to distribute 3 monthly targets for mining contractors (mining, drilling and explosives contractors)
  • Generate ‘compliance to plan’ reports for all contractors
  • Monitor mining operations and provide support to the mining contractors in resolving daily mining operational issues.

About You

We’re looking for someone ready for a challenge and is a fast-learner. You’ll will be able to hit the ground running.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be a collaborative team player.

What you’ll bring to this role:

  • Previous experience in mine planning and scheduling with solid exposure to mining operations and contract management
  • Open pit experience would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of drill and blast systems would be advantageous, as well as an understanding of geotechnical issues
  • Experience in Datamine, Surpac, XACT, OPMS, code/scripting development skills are highly regarded.

  • You will be a degree qualified Mining Engineer, or a closely related field
