District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula

Situated in and around the southern tip of the Eyre Peninsula and incorporating 709 kilometres of magnificent coastline, the District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula is a “hidden gem” known for its diversity across commercial, agricultural, aquaculture and tourism industries. The Council boasts two major townships – Cummins and Coffin Bay, with several smaller settlements across the region. Their significant commercial interests also include the Port Lincoln Airport. This position, based in Council’s Port Lincoln branch office, is responsible for meeting Council’s planning assessment and compliance duties and functions as prescribed under the various Acts, Regulations, Codes and Council policies in an efficient, expedient and professional manner to ensure the protection of the built and natural environment of the Council area.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Undertake timely and accurate verification and assessment of planning applications lodged in the SA Planning Portal in line with legislative requirements for the orderly and sustainable development of the district.
  • Provide planning advice to staff, councillors, applicants and other parties on planning matters via phone, email and over the counter.
  • Liaise with other staff, stakeholders and relevant Government agencies as appropriate during the development assessment process.
  • Undertake administrative and customer service duties to support the functions of the Development Services team.
  • Investigate and respond to development compliance matters in an effective manner.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations and attend Eyre Peninsula Regional Assessment Panel (EPRAP) meetings as required.

Successful candidates will have, or be close to completing, a formal qualification in Urban and Regional Planning. Ideally you should be eligible for Level 1 Planning Accreditation and have a working knowledge of the relevant Local Government Act, and Planning, Development, and Infrastructure Act 2016.

You will be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to negotiate, influence, and resolve potential disputes.
