The Whyalla City Council is seeking a motivated and passionate Motor Mechanic / Metal Fabricator to support our mechanical maintenance workshop team to maintain a safe and operable fleet of heavy plant, motor vehicles and minor mechanical plant/equipment.

About the role:

As a Motor Mechanic / Metal Fabricator, you will be using your expertise to maintain, repair, improve and modify a fleet of motor vehicles and mechanical plant to a safe and operable working condition in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and manufacturer instructions.

Key duties include:

  • Carrying out servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment
  • Completing unplanned maintenance, trouble shoot and address mechanical faults
  • Attending and carrying out maintenance for breakdowns that occur in the field
  • Conducting tests to identify potential faults
  • Contributing to the planning, preparation and execution of appropriate service schedules including maintaining accurate service records and documentation
  • Undertaking purchasing requirements for spare parts in accordance with procurement processes

About you:

We are looking for a motivated and passionate person who is looking for a rewarding career with Council’s mechanical maintenance team.

We are seeking an individual who has:

  • Relevant experience and qualifications as Mechanic/Diesel Mechanic
  • Qualifications and/or substantial experience in welding/fabrication
  • Ability to perform and provide skilled mechanical corrective and preventative maintenance
  • The ability to work in a team environment
  • Great customer service skills and a respectful communication style, together with an ability to work as a positive and constructive team member
  • Good computer literacy, reading, writing and comprehension skills
  • A strong commitment and understanding of WHS requirements
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • A current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
  • A current Heavy Vehicle Licence (LR or higher) (HR preferred)
  • The ability to pass a medical including drug and alcohol screening

The salary applicable for this role is in accordance with the Local Government Employees’ Award and Council’s current Enterprise Agreement, paid at Grade 7+ commencing at $67,428.40.
