A plan to drive the development and commercialisation of technology solutions on farms with the aim of increasing agricultural productivity, profitability and sustainability has been launched.

The AgTech Strategic Plan, developed by the AgTech Advisory Group, has been launched by Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development, the Hon David Basham MP. The State Government has also announced an investment of $2.4 million over three years to assist the uptake of AgTech by primary producers, which could return up to $2.6 billion per annum to the South Australian economy.

Key stakeholders including primary producers, AgTech developers, industry, researchers, scientists and relevant government agencies were consulted on development of the plan with the process identifying the need for a collaborative approach to encourage greater uptake of AgTech.

The focus of the AgTech Strategic Plan is primarily technology on farms, but takes into account the post-farm gate agricultural value chain and includes strategies to accelerate the development and commercialisation of innovative AgTech solutions.
